The city of Hot Springs is often called "America's First Resort"! We're best known for the natural spring water that gives our city its name, flowing from the ground at a temperature of 147 °F (64 °C). The natural thermal water flows from 47 springs on the western slope of Hot Springs Mountain in the city's historic downtown district. A small channel of hot spring water known as Hot Springs Creek runs underground from an area near Park Avenue to Bath House Row.
About a million gallons of 143° water flow from the springs each day, regardless of the area's rainfall amounts. Studies by National Park Service scientists have determined through carbon dating that the water that reaches the surface in Hot Springs fell as rainfall in an undetermined watershed 4,000 years ago. The water percolates very slowly down through the earth's surface until it reaches superheated areas deep in the crust and rushes rapidly to the surface to emerge from the 47 hot springs.
Hot Springs National Park is the oldest park reserved for federal use, so it was the first to receive its own US quarter in April 2010 as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters. The park is only 15 minutes away on Highway 7!
Hot Springs Village Inn is quite close to the Ouachita National Forest and the Arkansas end of the Ouachita Mountains. The Ouachita Mountains are fold mountains like the Appalachians in the east and once compared to the Rocky Mountains in elevation. Erosion has worn away the craggy tops. The low formations you see today are what's left.
The Ouachitas are unusual in that they run east and west, unlike most mountain ranges in the United States that run north and south. As you explore Ouachita National Forest and the Ouachita Mountains, be sure to check out Mount Magazine. At 2,753 feet, it's the highest peak in the range.

Fun Fact!
Hot Springs is the childhood home of US President Bill Clinton!
Recently had an unexpected extended stay in the area and couldn't have been happier with our accommodations here. The staff was super friendly and always assisted in meeting our needs. The room was oversized and the beds super comfy. The pool and hot tub were close to the room and very inviting. We were very pleased and will definitely be making a return trip soon.
